My Teaching Philosophy -

That it is important to bring an aspect of "silly," not just play, to class; I show that students can be themselves and there is no such thing as "ridiculous." I try to help kids get out of the habit of the self-conscious-thoughts that start to creep in around middle school age. In addition, I break down the concept of "good" and "bad" which accompanies that self-consciousness in order to give them permission to really explore their own acting capacities to the fullest. Anyone can have great technique, but not everyone can make the audience feel something by infusing a performance with their unique perspective. That is what I help bring out of my students.

Theatrical Dance is the heightened expression through movement because text and music can’t complete the show. The characters have to be bigger than themselves and take up more space to not only forward the plot, but give the audience a deeper insight and reveal something new about what the characters are thinking and feeling. That is the foundation of broadway dance. So when I choreograph, I make sure to focus on the plot first, characters second, and music third to influence my movement. I love choreography for a similar reason that I love performing - I am using my gifts to contribute to something outside of myself. But when I choreograph, I develop movement that benefits both the performers and the story, that makes the story visually elevated for the audience.

I am a choreographer and an educator. I have studied the pedagogy of voice, theatre, and dance, and continued my education through various professional conferences which teach me the latest educational tools and research development in those respective fields.

I would love to host a workshop with your students or collaborate on a show. Reach out and lets being working together!
